glock 22 bullets

Glock 22 Bullets - The Glock G44 is a light but reliable .22LR that doesn't scoff at a big ammo pack, all of which proves a dress rehearsal for the G19. (All photos: Chris Egger/)

Billed by Glock as a pistol designed “for novice shooters, sport shooters and everyone in between,” the G44 has a lot going for it.

Debuting last month after a cryptic upgrade, the G44 features an innovative hybrid steel-polymer slide and the ability to adjust to each user's hand via the back straps supplied with the gun. Glock's first handgun, it's designed to emulate the crowd-favorite G19, using a 4.02-inch barrel that produces an overall length of 7.28 inches — similar to the popular midsize 9mm. They also have the same height of 5.04 inches, a factor that means most G19 holsters will work for the G44 if you want to carry the 22LR on the trail or around the Ponderosa.

Where the G19 leaves off, which has a 15+1 capacity and weighs 30 ounces, the G44 runs a smaller 10-round magazine and weighs only about half as much.

Gluck explained that if their name is on fire, they want it to be as credible as possible. To some extent this has made a 10 shot mag where it is impossible to feed the cartridge properly.

The factory G44 10-shot magazine is distinctive, waffle-backed, and easy to load, holding onto the left side of the mag body. It seats rounds accurately and is comparable in capacity to the 10-round mags seen in the Ruger Mark IV, Browning Buckmark and S&W SW22 Victory series.

Disassembly of the G44 is similar to any other Glock, although the hybrid polymer/steel slide and miniature barrel – which is chambered with a lock – are a departure from the rest of the family tree.

Handling and disposal of the G44 is similar to the G19 or any Glock.

G44 sights have the traditional polymer front post and U-notch rear, although the rear sight differs slightly from standard factory Glock sights because it needs to be attached to the gun's hybrid slide. However, Glock says that both rear and front are compatible with standard sights.

The G44 has nearly the same features as the Glock Gen5 pistol, including a dovetail well and slotless grip. Unlike any other Glock, this one has a basic recoil action. Unlike many of its competing guns, it does not have a fixed barrel.

While many manufacturers have licensed their names to the German gunmaker Umarex to produce their 22LR scaled-down arm, the G44 is made in the United States by Glock, marked by numerous Georgia markings on the frame, slide, and barrel.

Is The .357 Sig Dead?

And of course the G44 in 22LR should not be confused with the G22 in .40S&W. I'm just saying.

The basic problem is that the 22LR is a funky cartridge. First sold as black powder in 1884, intended for use in small lead nose rifles and revolvers, its shroud case proved notoriously difficult to fire. In addition, there are a huge number of loads in circulation, all with slightly different specifications and performance. When you compound those issues with the fact that rounds are often produced by the millions as cost-effectively as possible, especially in the case of big-pack budget ammo, and you get a cartridge that pales in comparison to most semi-autos. the hand

To be fair, Glock spent nearly three years testing and developing the G44—which led to models like the G45, G46, G47, and G48 going on to hit the market while the rimfire Chew was still in research and development. During that time, they used no fewer than 141 different rim loads in testing, popping 1.2 million rounds in the process. Federal, which supported the effort, used 42-grain Subsonic to CCI Stinger in testing without issue. In short, while many 22LR pistols come with the caveat that they are picky about their diet, the Glock is considered an omnivore.

For reference, when it was at the G44 unveiling event last month, we were on hand to see a collection of 10 production model G44s cycle over 12,000 rounds of CCI Blazer bricks in two hours without interruption. There is no rush.

We ran 2,200 rounds of ammunition from around the world through our test guns. These included the new Winchester Wildcats, CCI AR Tactical, Blazer, Remington Golden Bullet, Aquila Standard Super Extra (both lead and copper), many more.

Old yellow boxes of CCI Mini Mags, Remington Thunderbolt Bulk and Aquila Sniper Subsonic 60 grains. We also pulled out an old pack of 31-grain Pest Control bullets.

This is quite an advantage, thankfully 22LR prices have dropped since 2013, with prices as low as $1.99 for 50 rounds.

With more than 2,200 rounds rim smoking and flashing dreams, based on experience with other semi-auto pistols, you can expect jams or misfires with any other magazine or similar.

Glock 44 Review: Plinker Worth Purchasing?

In our testing with the Glock, we had three failures: two failures to eject the Aquila Standard Lead Super Extra (in the same mag!) and a Remington Gold Bullet that failed to fire despite a strong rim impact. The gun was cleaned halfway through to remove a heavy gunk of lead and powder residue.

The G44 was super reliable in testing, recording two failures to eject and one failure to fire, with ammo that ran on the cheap side. In short, it bangs when you want it and with little frustration.

With the same trigger pull and working sight radius as the G19, the G44 is easy to shoot. Stable, even weighing a kilo, almost no lag, very consistent and hanging on target.

Although there was no Volquartsen gun, the gun still performed well when it came to paper punching. The new Glock rimfire consistently hit the center of the target at 25 yards, like shooting a carnival gallery. It should be noted that the G44 uses the new and highly accurate Glock Marksman barrel, just like the Gen5 models.

That target looks small at 25 yards, but even with semi-quick and alternating shots from the left and right hand, center mass hits were no challenge. At Glock's unveiling event in December, there were steel targets at 108 yards and contact.

When we slowed it down, we tried some unsupported strings at 25 yards and ran about 2-inches on average. Note that none of the ammo we use can be considered quality.

If you were running a G44 from the bench and using a nice slow Eley Match gun or something, I imagine you could probably dial it closer than that.

In addition to being a fun gun to shoot – which is important for introducing new and younger shooters to the sport – the G44 is a clear case study for those transitioning to the larger carry size G19. Furthermore, those who already own a G19 or similar can benefit from the G44's inexpensive live fire training, as most .22LR runs for only about a quarter of the cost of cheaper 9mm ammo.

Handgun Cartridges That Will Soon Be Obsolete

For those who want a rimfire gun for use in pest control, or for camp or shed hunting in the spring when the ropes are active, the fact that the G44 fits standard G19 holsters and the extra rail make it an easy choice. . In a pinch and with the right ammo, it can also be used as a defensive handgun, especially for someone who is shy.

On the downside, if you want to run a can on the G44 and enjoy quiet time, you have to buy the threaded barrel separately and it uses European metric threads with a 1x28TPI adapter, even if you use a spring for the aftermarket barrel. Furthermore, magazine capacity isn't as high as the Taurus TX22 (16+1) or the Kel-Tec CP33 (33+1), but neither of those are Glocks.

The Glock G44 has an MSRP of $430 – a price that will likely be lower at retailers – and will be available after January 20. By comparison, aftermarket sub-caliber kits to convert a standard Glock to fire .22LR start around $300. That being said, only the top half of the G44 cannot be added to the G19 frame due to different internals, so don't expect that to happen.

Finally, if you're looking for a reliable .22LR semi-auto pistol that replicates almost everything about the Glock G19, the G44 is the way to go. Your beloved G19? No worries. The iconic pistol now has a doppelgänger in .22 LR.
